Post #9- Reading GRQ Discussion- Rennaissance and Modern Art

Discussion, Reading, and GRQs Discussion Why is the Mona Lisa Famous? She was an ordinary woman, where many who were painted were wealthy and had power or authority. Very revolutionary through the "rules being broken." Mona depicts da Vinci's mastery of the human anatomy and natural realism. Mona was believed to be a man, but she maybe also was a woman called Lisa Gherardini, a wife of Florentine silk Merchant Francesco del Gioconda. The painting stayed with da Vinci until his death then it was property of King Francois, hanging around the palaces and museums. Now its incased in glass because of vandalism and theft cases. Da Vinci also used subtle techniques of lighting and blending to create gradients of light and shadows to also create the look of real skin and the different tones of skin colors.  Reading- Rennaissance architecture to modern architecture has evolved in new ways. Ever since da Vinci, Raphael, Michaelangelo and many more were alive there have been advanc...

Lecture-Rennaissance The Rennaissance started in Florence, Italy. The paintings were muted, the colors were muted, and there were rules to what classified an artist as an Artist. The biggest rule was to add black to paintings to make everything stand out. They also used white to create movement in the paintings. Something called the Humanist Philosophy means people have the worth.   The Rennaissance means "rebirth", and it introduced the idea of "Humanism." Humanism came through more realistic, more 3-D, background perspectives, and more color. Byzantine art mimicked more symbolism over reality. Backgrounds were typically Gold, and they had large person in the center of the painting because they were important.  Early Rennaissance brought many painting techniques, and very famous painters and sculptors. Three painting techniques were: Fresca, Oils, and Tempera. Oils were the most preferred in the Early Rennaissance. Brunelleschi did the Duomo. He had rediscovered l...

Post #7- Reading, GRQ's, Discussion - Theatre of the people.

Reading, GRQ's, and Discussion Reading- What is an Epic? descriptive phrases applied to a person or thing. This was called Formulaic Epithets. The Iliad had common phrases that include "Fleetfooted Achiles, and bronze armed Achaeans." Homer used the term (Achaean) to designate the Greeks, who are associated with the Mycenaeans. The "epic" meter used to be called the "hexameter." There were specific names to put in the structure that include Dactyls or Spondees. It can be one syllable with two short ones, or two long syllables. Examples of these names are in the common phrases. "Fleet-footed" is a Dactyl and "bronzed-armed" is a Spondee.  The Iliad is a small bit of the Trojan War. The fall of Troy to the Greek army is described in The Odyssey. Odysseus desire is to see his wife. The artwork in the piece of text assigned to us really helped describe and know what we were reading because of the details of the map or the vase. Each...

Post #6- Lecture - Baroque Theatre - Modern Opera

Baroque Theatre - Modern Opera At the start of our lecture, we started at St. Peters Square which was Baroque Architecture. It was built in the 4th century by Constantine the Great. There was a dome called the Basilica, which was designed by: Michaelangelo. Then came the Baroque Theatre/ Cesky Krumlov Baroque Theatre. There were many things in common with the roman colosseum. Under the stage, the technology remained about the same, but it just became more advanced, examples include the elevators, and the pulleys. The Theatre created something called the 4th Wall . It was the separation from the actors and their audience. The actors didn't interact with the audience. Vivaldi's Four Seasons brought new Special Effects to the Theatre. Those include, Sound Effects, Lighting, Air to create movement, and music! The Baroque Opera came after. This brought very bright and colorful costumes, new voices, and very mythical characters. Akhenaten Contemporary Opera is a very big advancemen...

Post #5- Reading-GRQ-Discussion- The Art of Indigenous Americans Art History: A century of exhibitions

Reading-GRQ-Discussion- The Art of Indigenous Americans Art History: A century of exhibitions Discussion Question: Have the expectations of an audience changed since ancient Rome? How has entertainment changed? How have audiences changed?  Many expectations have changed since Roman time. With the expectation of audience, we have size, class, and the reason why they were watching/participating in an event/performance. Since Roman time, audience size has evolved and become a more normal thing. They either have a large or small audience. Audiences were also seated by class and gender. Today, this is not how we go and see movies, Broadway, conventions, etc. The entertainment that the Romans had was way more violent and disturbing than what we have today. Romans had slaughters and very dangerous Games. Today, we have the Super Bowl, and movies, musicals, plays, and TVs in our own homes for anywhere entertainment. Our audiences have changed because we are accepting of who we are, and wha...

Post #4- Lecture Native American-Gothic Architecture

Native American to Gothic Architecture The difference between Native American Architecture to Gothic Architecture is very drastic, but in a very revolutionary way. Native Americans started with very simple and easy structures, like the teepee. Then the Greeks built the Amphitheatre that brought new light to audiences and performers. Then there were chariot races, which the worst seat in the house was being the performer. The Romans brought the Colosseum, which brought more versatility to performances/events like, Ludi Romani games, animal slaughters, and the flooding of the colosseum to clean up the aftermath of the slaughters. After the Colosseum, there was the Pantheon, which means "all gods." The pantheon was built for wonder and prestige. There was a hole at the top for light to shine through and for people to feel closer to the heavens. The Hagia Sophia had revolutionized acoustics, lighting and temperature control. After the Hagia Sophia came the Gothic Cathedral. The ...

Post #3- Creativity Article- GRQ and Discussion

Article on Creativity, GRQ's, and Discussion Post Article on Creativity: Why are many people creative? Everyone has some capacity of creativity. It doesn't have to be your career or personality, but we are all creative in our own ways, and our daily lives as well. Like the article states " Importantly, we found that people who did better on this task also tended to report having more creative hobbies and achievements". With this  statement, the idea that comes up is "What are my creative hobbies?" My idea on creativity comes from being able to do things that maybe others don't perceive as creative or outside of the box. The brain is a wonderful thing that we use every day. The study in the article provides the statement that the brain has three parts that work together or separately at different times and for different things. Like the article says "d oes taking drawing classes lead to greater connectivity within these brain networks?" ...

Post #2- Raul Cuero I very much agree with Raul Cuero. Being able to innovate is having something added onto, but being able to invent is way more important because we get to be a part of something new.  Everyone can be creative especially those who want to invent something are more creative than those who want to innovate on something that has existed. Everyone has their own creative mind and I agree with what he said over being you and your own inventor.  In my daily life, I can apply what Raul said, by being able to not follow instructions that were given but being able to innovate them and apply and invent new ones that can get me a better end result. Rues to need to be followed but being creative is by following them, but being able to do it in your way.  Notes from short video watched in class: The pheromones are molecules that make a connection when the temperature gets higher.  Information you pick up, you need to apply it to be knowledge, if you don't ...
